The Basque Y-shaped line is entering its final stages

Work on the Bergara Interchange, where the three high-speed lines from Bilbao, San Sebastián and Vitoria converge, continues to progress towards its final phase.

COMSA, alongside Nortúnel, S.A., Campezo Obras y Servicios and CYCASA Canteras y Construcciones, S.A., is involved in the construction of sector 3 of the Bergara junction (Mondragón-Elorrio-Bergara), a project presenting significant technical and construction challenges in a highly complex environment.

The project has included the construction of the Kortazar tunnel, a double-track tunnel 1,971 metres long, as well as a 900-metre emergency tunnel. Two viaducts have also been built: the 551-metre-long Kortazar viaduct (with 69-metre spans) and the 30-metre-long Emboquille de Kortazar viaduct.

The project is completed by the construction of connections between the tunnel and the gallery, walls, drainage systems and other safety features, as well as environmental restoration measures aimed at promoting the integration of the infrastructure with the local fauna, flora and watercourses.

Recently, the Minister for Transport and Mobility, Óscar Puente, visited the site to assess the progress of works at this strategic hub of the high-speed network.

This project contributes to the development of the Basque Y, a key infrastructure for improving rail connectivity in the Basque Country.
