COMSA and Nortúnel, in a joint venture with IZA Obras y Promociones, continue to work on the Galdakao–Hospital section of the future Line 5 of the Bilbao Metro. Most of the route is being built in a tunnel and includes the cavern for the future Galdakao Hospital station.
Forty-five per cent of the total length of the section has already been excavated in the line tunnel. Work is progressing simultaneously on different fronts, including excavation under the bed of the Ibaizabal River and the station access tunnels.
Last week, the works were visited by the Basque Government’s Minister for Sustainable Mobility, Susana García Chueca, and the Deputy General of Bizkaia, Elixabete Etxanobe Landajuela, accompanied by representatives of Euskal Trenbide Sarea – Basque Railway Network.
Line 5 will connect Basauri, Galdakao and Usansolo, facilitating access to Galdakao Hospital and strengthening sustainable mobility and connectivity in the metropolitan area. The new route will run every 7.5 minutes and will have a direct impact on the lives of nearly 200,000 people.
