The new railway bypass improves connectivity between Donostia, Pasaia and Errenteria and enables an increase in service frequency and capacity.
The new Altza-Galtzaraborda section of the Topo line has entered service, a strategic project to improve rail transport in Gipuzkoa. The new bypass, approximately two kilometres long and double-tracked, strengthens the connection between Donostia, Pasaia and Errenteria and enables a more frequent service with greater capacity to be offered.
COMSA has participated in the construction of this infrastructure as part of a joint venture with CAMPEZO Obras y Servicios, Grupo Azvi and Nortúnel. For its part, COMSA Industrial was involved in the electrical installations and mechanical equipment for the new infrastructure, as well as in the electrification of the section.
The project includes the new underground station at Pasai Antxo, which will facilitate the urban integration of the railway and pave the way for the future removal of the railway viaduct that crosses the municipality.
The inaugural journey on the new infrastructure was presided over by the Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, and the Minister for Sustainable Mobility, Susana García Chueca, alongside institutional representatives, industry professionals and the teams involved in the project.
The commissioning of the Altza–Galtzaraborda section forms part of the process of expanding and modernising the Topo. In Donostia, COMSA is also continuing to make progress, in a joint venture with Construcciones Amenabar, on the track superstructure works for the Lugaritz–Easo bypass and the Morlans junction.
This second phase comprises approximately 4.5 kilometres of double-track slab track within tunnels and will contribute to further improving sustainable rail transport in the Donostia metropolitan area.
