The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, through Adif, has awarded COMSA, in a joint venture with CUEVAS, the first phase of the works for the integration of the railway in Santander.
This project represents a significant step in the city’s railway transformation process, aimed at improving the functionality of the infrastructure and its integration into the urban environment.
The first phase of the project includes:
- Diversion of standard-gauge tracks
- Upgrading of metre-gauge tracks
- Construction of ancillary facilities and a temporary car park
- Construction of a temporary station for the Iberian-gauge network
- Clearing of the space required for the implementation of the following works provided for in the agreement signed between Adif, Renfe, the Government of Cantabria and Santander City Council
The completion of these works will enable progress to be made on the modernisation of the station, the reorganisation of the marshalling yard and better integration of the railway into the city, helping to optimise the rail service and its relationship with the urban environment.
