Work progresses on the new Abacería Market

Work on the new Abacería Market in the Gràcia neighbourhood continues to progress, and some of the project’s most iconic elements are now visible.

One of the most notable features is the new ceramic roof, with warm-toned tiles that reinterpret the market’s original roof. Photovoltaic panels will soon be added to improve the building’s energy efficiency.

The work, carried out by COMSA Corporación and promoted by the Municipal Institute of Markets of Barcelona, is progressing in parallel in different areas. The wooden and steel structure of the entrance porch, designed as a semi-covered square open to the neighbourhood, is already taking shape, as are the façades, which combine wood, iron and large glass windows to bring light and transparency to the commercial space. At the same time, the interior work continues to progress gradually.

Although the project has been developed using traditional construction methods, BIM methodology has been used during the construction phase, which allows potential inconsistencies to be detected in advance, improves coordination between teams and enables decisions to be made more efficiently.

At COMSA Corporación, we continue to work on the construction of a key facility for local commerce and everyday life in the neighbourhood, respecting the historic character of the market and adapting it to current architectural and functional criteria.
