We care about people just as much as we care about our projects
Here at GRUPO COMSA we are convinced that the value of our company is the result of the value and performance of our partners. People really do make a difference and it is people who year after year have enabled the Group to become and remain one of the leading firms in its sector.
- We are committed to training and development
Human Resources’ vision is to help achieve the strategic objectives and financial results of GRUPO COMSA through improving the efficiency of personnel and the value that they bring.
We are pledged to a "training COMSA" geared towards developing technical, interpersonal and management skills at each stage of a person’s professional career. In 2006 more than 27,000 hours of training were given to 1,300 employees, which means 12 hours of training per employee per year. The forecast for 2007 is a two-fold increase in these figures.
The training pathways created with the inclusion of one-year Site Manager and Production Manager programmes are an example of the Group’s commitment to providing training in the management knowledge and skills required in day-to-day operations, to transmitting corporate culture and internal procedures and to furthering knowledge among its personnel.
We are seeking to foster internal promotion at all levels in the company in order to further professional development and meet the needs generated by the growth of GRUPO COMSA both in Spain and abroad.
- We promote knowledge management
At GRUPO COMSA we invest in R&D&I to provide professional support for each and every one of the projects we work on. To our way of thinking, innovating and applying state-of-the-art technology is a means of ensuring quality and continuity. As a result our Technical Department is constantly researching into the best and most innovative solutions to our customers’ needs.
We attach enormous importance to the professional development of our employees in order to continue growing. As a result, GRUPO COMSA also fosters continuous learning by means of forums for the exchange of experiences between topographers, site managers and production personnel.
- We are a guarantee of stability
COMSA has a long and solid track record which is a guarantee of stability and security.
Every year we advance stable employment by increasing the number of indefinite contracts that we offer our employees. At present 60% of our workforce has an indefinite contract.
In addition COMSA fulfils its social responsibility commitment by ensuring that we meet our employment quota for disabled personnel.
- We are pledged to people
At Human Resources we drive ongoing projects designed to make it possible for employees to combine work and family life and for us to comply with gender equality legislation.
- Contribution-based pay
n order to ensure equitable remuneration based on the contribution made by each person, we have a job description and evaluation system. In addition we compare salaries with those to be found elsewhere in our sector so as to ensure that we remain competitive employers.
For 42% of our workforce our remuneration structure is based on a fixed salary plus performance-based compensation. In this way we aim to reward the contribution made by each person to the results and growth of our various businesses.
This policy is supplemented by a system of flexible remuneration for a group of around 300 people (senior executives, departmental heads, middle management, site managers) which increases their net monthly salary.
- The importance of health and safety and the environment
GRUPO COMSA is especially concerned with enhancing health and safety at work and fostering continuous improvement in all of its activity and specialisation areas.
Its health and safety plans include ongoing monitoring of onsite risks through systematic and evaluated visits.
Another important factor in health and safety at work and the environment is continuous training for all new production personnel (Site and Production Managers, Supervisors and Foremen).
The number of accidents, as measured by the Frequency Index, was down by 45% in 2006 compared with 2001 and was stable with respect to the previous year.
COMSA continues to perform extremely well in terms of the average contained in Ministry of Employment figures for the construction industry. COMSA’s frequency index stands at 36.4%, which is below the figure most recently published by the Ministry in 2005.
The enormous growth in COMSA’s businesses is a challenge for all of us. The goal that suffuses everything that we do is to consolidate this new dimension of the Group without losing our core values that are crucial to our market positioning and recognition.
