COMSA started life in the railway industry and after 115 years we continue to be pledged to maintaining a railway business unit. This enables us to deliver comprehensive service in the railway sector and is a positive differentiating factor vis-à-vis our competitors.
GRUPO COMSA is pledged to customer-driven service and has consolidated its position in transport and hydraulic infrastructures, the environment and construction and in managing municipal and industrial services.
Our diversification strategy is one of the pillars on which GRUPO COMSA bases its growth. The Group’s traditional activity has been reinforced by other businesses including Environment, Real Estate and Hotels, Concessions, Transport and Logistics and Agriculture.
International growth also has a leading role to play in the Group’s activities. Since we moved into Portugal in 1989, COMSA has put in place an international expansion plan which today means we have a presence on four continents. This drive towards internationalisation will continue over forthcoming years in line with our strategic plan for the period up to 2010.
I would like to reaffirm our corporate commitment to aiding sustainable development in our society. COMSA has mapped out a line of action which makes business development compatible with environmental responsibility. Expansion of railways will enable enhanced regional balance, helping to ease congestion in large population centres and providing fast transport with low pollutant gas emission levels. COMSA also develops and delivers services to the general public and industry which make it possible to turn the waste that we produce into reusable raw materials.
Over the next few years we aim to drive strong growth which enables us to face future economic cycles from a position of stability and continue with the progress we have made in turnover and profitability. To that end we shall pay special attention to our construction and rail contracts order book. We shall continue to focus efforts on boosting growth of our Environment business, maintaining our strong organic growth and making fresh company acquisitions. We also hope that the internationalisation of our businesses will make major progress, a field in which our growth in Eastern Europe will be especially significant.
