One of GRUPO COMSA’s most important assets is its technologically advanced fleet of equipment.
GMF (Gestión de Maquinaria Ferroviaria) is the firm tasked with running this fleet with the assistance of an Automatic Equipment Control System (AECS) which enables remote monitoring of each unit using GPRS technology, thus providing information about location and any possible anomalies in real time.
At present the fleet consists of 224 motorised vehicles (tamping machines, ballast profilers, ballast cleaners, stabilisers, locomotives, etc.). Over the last few years the Group has boosted its rolling stock with the addition of powerful state-of the-art machines. In 2007 GMF also added two new Diesel Euro 4000 locomotives to its fleet, the most powerful in Europe in their class, to provide traction services.
GMF has gained certification of its workshop as a Railway Rolling Stock Maintenance Centre. This certification will make it easier to start providing maintenance services to third parties, which in turn will enable GMF to increase its activities through diversification of its business types.
